My first hard core backpacking experiences started while a graduate student at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I joined the Canadian Youth Hostel Organization which had cabins through out Alberta, especially in the Banf/Jasper parks. The members in the organization were from all over the world which provided for a very rich experience.
It wasn’t until we moved to California in 1970 that I started backpacking again. I backpacked with our children in the Sierra Nevada when they were a very young age and continued on through the years of our son Greg’s involvement in the Boy Scouts of America. Along with Dave Ellis and Jerry Howard, we lead troop 37’s fifty miler backpack trips in the Sierra Nevada for many years.
I plan to present pictures from these backpacking trips as time allows.
